Social Media Coordinator

In charge of crafting and overseeing social media content for MTSO, ensuring the brand remains consistent, interacting with online followers, evaluating engagement statistics, and directing volunteers in design and post creation.

Responsibilities

  • Producing and scheduling social media content for MTSO on multiple platforms. 
  • Overseeing brand consistency between content and social media accounts.
  • Interacting with online audiences to encourage community engagement and participation.
  • Analyzing engagement data to assess the performance of posts and campaigns.
  • Guiding volunteers in designing graphics and creating posts for both social media and the website.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 hours weekly volunteer commitment.
  • Proficient in social media content creation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Graphic design experience is a plus.
  • Able to collaborate in teams and work independently.

Communications Coordinator

In charge of creating press releases, planning communication strategies, writing marketing content, and improving public perception of MTSO. It also includes building media relationships, coordinating events, handling media inquiries, monitoring media coverage, and ensuring consistent messaging.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting press releases for campaigns, events, and reports.
  • Planning communications strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Writing marketing content (website, blogs, newsletters).
  • Improving public perception of MTSO.
  • Building relationships with media representatives.
  • Coordinating meetings, presentations, and events.
  • Handling media inquiries and requests.
  • Monitoring media coverage and assessing its impact.
  • Ensuring consistency in messaging in press releases.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 hours weekly volunteer commitment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Lead, Connect Downsview

Help advance advocacy for extending the Sheppard Subway into the future Downsview Airport redevelopment lands. Work with government partners, planners, developers, and transit agencies to promote rapid transit access from day one. This is an unpaid/volunteer role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Connect Downsview Campaign
  • Advocate for extending the Sheppard Subway Extension into the Downsview Airport Development
  • Engage with local politicians to promote the campaign
  • Collaborate with the airport developer to support the extension initiative
  • Work with Metrolinx to facilitate the subway extension
  • Liaise with the City of Toronto to ensure alignment with municipal plans
  • Emphasize the benefits of bringing subway service to new residents from day one
  • Focus on achieving project completion faster and at a lower cost

Lead, Transit-Oriented Communities

Champion transit-oriented development, pedestrian-first urban design, and mixed-use communities that bring housing, jobs, and amenities closer to transit. This is an unpaid/volunteer role.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead advocacy efforts for transit-oriented communities with a focus on urban design
  • Promote high-quality, pedestrian-first design principles in community planning
  • Advocate for the development of mixed-use communities that prioritize employment and housing near transit hubs
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure growth is aligned with rapid transit expansion
  • Educate the community on the benefits of transit-oriented development
  • Work to influence policy and planning decisions that support sustainable urban growth

Regional and City Leads

Coordinate MTSO’s advocacy and engagement within a specific region or municipality. This is an unpaid/volunteer role.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify transit challenges and advocacy opportunities
  • Coordinate MTSO volunteers and campaigns
  • Build relationships with local organizations, riders, and stakeholders
  • Monitor regional transit projects and announcements
  • Requires a moderate time commitment (3-5 hours per week) to keep track of their assigned jurisdictions
